Chamber and BPL to Host Free Business Seminar back to Recent News archive
January 19, 2010

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce have joined to host "Profit with Non-Profits: How Community Involvement Boosts Your Bottom Line." The seminar, held at three different BPL branches on consecutive days at the end of January, focuses on how businesses can profit from cause marketing and strategic partnerships with non-profit organizations. BPL's Deputy Director of External Affairs Judith Nichols will be on hand to facilitate the seminars.

"Brooklyn Public Library is extremely excited about this effort. As one of Brooklyn's largest non-profit organizations, it is important that we recognize and educate others about the value of cooperative partnerships between for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations," said Ms. Nichols.

"The Brooklyn Chamber has a long and productive relationship with Brooklyn Public Library and the Business Library, in particular. These informational sessions offer small businesses an introduction to the resources available at both institutions, and will afford companies an opportunity to connect with useful, practical services and tools to help grow their business," explained Carl Hum, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "During these tough economic times any advice to help businesses boost their bottom line is welcomed advice."

With small businesses, along with non-profits, facing unique challenges in this difficult economy, "Profit with Non-Profits" will demonstrate for business owners how aligning their business to their core values through partnerships with local non-profit organizations can support their community while improving their company's bottom line and employee retention.  Ms. Nichols presentation will provide a broad overview about how to develop a successful partnership program as well as provide an overview of BPL's resources.

The seminar will be held from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. on the following dates and locations: Wednesday, January 27, at the Business Library, 280 Cadman Plaza West (718-623-7000); Thursday, January 28, at the Kings Highway Library, 2115 Ocean Avenue (718-375-3037); and Friday, January 29, at the Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza (718-230-2100).  Complimentary continental breakfast will be served before each session.  Registrants may RSVP online at http://www.ibrooklyn.com/ or contact Yankie Lopez-Baptiste, special events coordinator at the Brooklyn Chamber, at 718-875-1000 ext. 127, or ybaptiste@brooklynchamber.com.
