Industrial and Manufacturing Services

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce helps industrial and manufacturing businesses in Brooklyn tackle daily challenges, including high energy costs and tax liability, encroaching residential development, expansion or relocation issues, and navigating city agencies to successfully operate and grow.

Brooklyn Chamber: Your Industrial Business Solutions Provider
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce was named an Industrial Business Solutions Provider for the Flatlands-Fairfield Industrial Business Zone (IBZ) by the Mayor’s Office for Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses (IMB).  The Flatlands-Fairfield IBZ is one of 16 Industrial Business Zones throughout New York City, including five in Brooklyn (click here for full IBZ listing.)  As an advocate for and liaison to the businesses of the Flatlands-Fairfield IBZ, the Chamber’s role is to seek out and work with business owners to identify and address their particular needs.

Whether or not your industrial business is located within one of the five manufacturing zones in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Chamber can help you access available services and programs.

Business Assistance Services
Darryl Hollon is the director of the Flatlands-Fairfield IBZ and is charged with assisting industrial firms in accessing city, state and utility incentives, as well as helping them to navigate government red tape issues.  He also works with business owners across the borough on a wide range of ombudsman issues in tandem with the Brooklyn Business Solutions Center, a mayoral initiative that links businesses to the services of the NYC Department of Small Business Services.  Some of the available business assistance and neighborhood improvement services for industrial businesses include:

Flatlands-Fairfield Industrial Business Zone
The Flatlands-Fairfield IBZ is a peninsula-like business area located in the northeast section of Brooklyn.  With over 800 blocks and lots designated for commercial and manufacturing use, the Flatlands-Fairfield IBZ stretches approximately five miles in length from Albany Avenue and Glenwood Road at the foot of Canarsie, to Logan Street and Flatlands Avenue in Flatlands. (Click here to view a map of the Flatlands-Fairfield IBZ.)

The area, a portion of which is located within the East New York Empire Zone, consists of over 700 manufacturing, industrial and distribution businesses that produce and distribute food, clothing, textiles, furniture, commercial heating and air conditioning units, home accessories, and other items:

  • Manufacturing –  41 %
  • Construction, utilities/public service, transportation, waste removal/recycling, and other service businesses  –  30%
  • Wholesale Trade/Distribution – 29%

Benefits of Operating in an IBZ
The Mayor’s Office for Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses (IMB) was created to address the specific needs of New York City’s industrial and manufacturing sector.  IMB identified sixteen of the most productive manufacturing zones in the city and designated them Industrial Business Zones (IBZs), and several others Industrial Ombudsmen Areas.  These areas foster high-performing business districts by creating competitive advantages over locating in areas outside of New York City.
