Vice President, Strategic Initiatives

The Vice President for Strategic Initiatives is part of the Senior Management Team of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and reports to the President and CEO. The position is responsible for ensuring that programs are meeting target goals, and working with the Director of Foundation Support and Grants on reporting, implementing marketing efforts, preparing funding requests and identifying new public and private funding opportunities.  The positon also works in tandem with both the Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and the Vice President for Economic Development Policy to provide thought leadership for the Brooklyn Chamber in public policy and the legislative process. Each employee of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is also responsible for retaining and attracting members.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the Chamber programs including Business Solutions Center, Brooklyn HealthWorks, Brooklyn-Made, Chamber On The Go, Go Digital, Good Help, and healthcare Navigators and Neighborhood Services and Brooklyn Alliance Capital
  • Analyze, track and report on these programs and develop tools to measure comprehensive program impact and effectiveness, as well as ensure that programs achieve deliverables
  • Provide support in organizing events and other program activities that boost leads
  • Manage logistical issues such as space needs, technology, staff support and training
  • Help to identify funding prospects and prepare grant requests and proposals
  • Assist in launching new programs or initiatives
  • Convene monthly meetings of the Programs and Services team to discuss and share best practices and issue resolution
  • Coordinate with the Communications team to identify potential earned media and press opportunities
  • Work with the Member Services team in educating members on maximizing use of the various Brooklyn Chamber programs
  • Work with the Public Affairs team to identify businesses that have received Brooklyn Chamber services and could provide testimonials to their local elected officials
  • Help Identify areas of Brooklyn for economic development projects

 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Special assignments as directed by the President and CEO
  • Coordinate the successful launch of the Brooklyn Chamber’s CDFI initiative along with the various staff working on the initiative
  • Coordinate the successful execution of the Small Business Administration’s Accelerator Grant
  • Attend events as required to represent the Brooklyn Chamber and the President and CEO.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field or other fields such as public policy, urban planning, public administration
  • Experience in program management, staff management and coordinating organizational teamwork
  • Strong analytic and writing skills
  • Fundraising background preferred but not required
